  • El Dorado is Colombia’s first airport with an electric vehicle charging station. The charging station is in the Central Parking Lot.
  • According to the latest report provided by the Ministry of Transportation, the country had more than 7,000 electric vehicles registered nationwide as of March 2022.In this way, El Dorado and Celsia join the sustainable mobility plans established on a national level, seeking to promote the fight against climate change.
  • With this partnership, El Dorado and Celsia contribute to promoting the use of clean energies that decontaminate the city. Using these charging points prevents emitting 1 ton of carbon dioxide per month. This is the equivalent of stopping the monthly refueling of 135 conventional vehicles with fossil fuel.

April 28, 2022. In order to contribute to mitigating climate change, reducing their carbon footprints and boosting the country’s vehicle electrification process, El Dorado and

Celsia installed the airport’s first electric charging station in its central parking lot. In this way, the airport seeks to promote more sustainable mobility and leverage its goal of reducing emissions by 40% by 2025 and 57% by 2028.

The first electric vehicle charging station at El Dorado will have 3 charging points, each with a capacity of 7.5 kW. At this station, travelers and visitors will be able to charge the battery of PHEV hybrids or 100% electric BEVs with type 1, type 2 and GB/AC connectors.

Mauricio Vélez, Infrastructure Manager of OPAIN, stated that “at El Dorado, we are committed to the environment, especially to mitigating climate change and reducing our carbon footprint. We generate sustainable connections through these types of initiatives, with which we hope to provide a solution for the airport’s users who have already made this transition and now have hybrid or 100% electric vehicles.”

“Since 2018, Celsia has been an energy efficiency partner of El Dorado, installing a solar roof and replacing traditional lighting with an LED system. This electric charging station complements all this support and contributes to the airport’s economic and environmental objectives, which is a source of great pride for us. It is also the first electric charging station at an airport in Colombia, adding to the entire mobility ecosystem Celsia has been deploying around the country to promote a more sustainable and environmentally friendly mobility. There are now more than 1,500 corporate, business, public and residential electric charging stations in Valle, Tolima, Bolivar, Antioquia, Cundinamarca and the Coffee Region,” said Luis Felipe Vélez, Celsia’s Commercial Director.

According to the latest report provided by the Ministry of Transportation, as of February, the country had over 7,000 electric cars registered nationwide. This figure demonstrates the segment’s rapid growth, with only 2,165 electric cars in 2018.
